I’m showing up to take a beginner’s salsa lesson. What type of shoes should I wear?

22nd September 2009

For beginners, pretty well anything with a leather sole and preferably a leather heel will do. Rubber soles will increase both your discomfort and your risk of injury. It’s also a commonly seen error for ladies to show up with sandals that have no back, and they spend the night trying not to dance out of them.

If you’re a beginner, you don’t need special shoes. Wear something comfortable and enjoy yourself.

something comfortable for sure, remember you are learning, not going to an actual salsa club yet, so keep it comfortable

Men- just wear comfortable shoes, though not sneakers because they can be too gummy-soled to turn in.
Ladies: closed-toe heels or low-heeled flats

Comfortable clean shoes that are not flip-flops. You don’t want to be losing your shoes as you dance.
